Easy Food Artisan Ireland Awards 2009

The winners are in, and we are proud to announce Glenfin Free Range Duck Eggs, The Easy Food Artisan Ireland producers of the year.

In the summer of 2009 Easy Food launched the first annual Easy Food Artisan Ireland Award, offering a whopping €10,000 worth of advertising to the most popular artisan producer, as voted by you, our readers. We launched the campaign to celebrate Irish Artisan Producers and products that are indigenous to Ireland. We wanted to find a brand that represents the best of Irish, a company that showcases Irish-centric ethics, and that contributes to our economy in both its production values and hiring strategy.

We are passionate about buying Irish, and this competition showed that Easy Food readers are too-you voted in your hundreds, and during the collation process a clear winner emerged in Glenfin Free Range Duck Eggs.

Launching an impressive viral campaign, Brian Phelan and Margaret Delaney proved themselves to be worthy winners of the award, and we are proud to endorse their brand as on to watch over the coming year.

How do the winners feel? “We are delighted to be awarded Easy Food Artisan Ireland Winners 2009” Brian Phelan told us upon receiving his award. Considering the many excellent artisan food producers in Ireland, it’s a great honour to have won this competition. We are very grateful for the support from all our customers and those who voted for us”.

Duck eggs can be substituted in any recipe-they have a richer nutrient level than hen’s eggs. As Brian Phelan says, “They taste like eggs used to taste!”

About the winners

When it comes to duck eggs, 26 year old Brian Phelan is an afficionado, having grown up easting eggs freshly collected from his grandmother’s garden. Last year, during a nostalgic moment, Brian couldn’t find duck eggs in any of his local shops. Attributing this as his “eureka” moment, Brian saw a golden business opportunity.

Along with his partner Margaret Delaney, Brian Phelan invested in a flock of 20 ducks, naming the company after the area where his grandmother lived, and building his numbers quickly to an impressive 2,500 in less than a year. As well as honing his sales technique whith thanks to mentors from Teagasc, Brian has achieved meteoric success, stocking his eggs in over 50 outlets throughout the country, firmly establishing his brand as one of the premier egg suppliers in the country.

The Big Prize
